Parental controls are a standard operating feature on Dish Networks systems so you dont have to scratch around for the best parental control system to lock your tv or censor tv. We all need family values and Dish Network's adult block allows you to block the tv channels you want censored.

All major video platform providers, DIRECTV, DISH Network, and VOOM, institute parental control functionality into their set-top boxes and provide accompanying customer education to subscribers on websites, through customer service, and through Public Service Announcements. Generally, all DBS set-top boxes include similar functionality to control viewing options. This includes specific channel blocking, time and date based channel blocking, blocking based on TV Ratings, blocking based on MPAA Ratings, and the suppression of adult programming titles and channels in the online program listing guide. The programming of the controls and access to blocked programming is secured with a personal identification number (PIN) and access code.

For example, DIRECTV features the Locks and Limits technology built into the equipment. The Locks and Limits feature restricts access to movies based on the MPAA rating system and blocks the viewing of entire channels.

DISH Network offers parents control over the programming entering their homes thought its software feature, "Adult Guard." The Adult Guard feature takes advantage of the built-in V-chip-type technology in satellite receivers to offer the ability to control the programming viewed through the electronic programming guide.

Dish Network's Adult Guard feature gives you the capability to remove the Adult channels (Playboy, TEN, Extasy, and Adultvision) from your Electronic Program Guide. This prevents any children in the household from viewing the programming OR accessing the program information. To activate Adult Guard follow these simple steps. (NOTE: procedure may vary for some receivers)

1. Press the MENU button
2. Highlight the LOCKS option, press SELECT
3. Choose the CHANNEL LOCKS option, and press SELECT
4. Scroll through the listed channel numbers till you see the Adult channel (495-497). Highlight the channels, and press the select button once on each channel. (NOTE: You should see a checkmark appear next to the channel information)
5. Highlight the SAVE option, and press SELECT
6. Highlight the LOCK SYSTEM option, and press SELECT
7. Enter a 4 digit password, then highlight OK and press SELECT
8. Re-enter the password for confirmation, then highlight OK and press SELECT
9. Your system is now locked (NOTE: This also automatically locks out the PPV channels, and requires the password be entered to view or order PPV)
10. Press the GUIDE button, notice the padlock in the upper left corner is now closed, and the adult channels are not listed in the guide any more. To view an adult channel after activating Adult Guard follow these steps:
11. Press the MENU button
12. Highlight the LOCKS option, press SELECT
13. Enter your 4 digit password, highlight OK and press SELECT
14. Highlight the UNLOCK SYSTEM option, and press SELECT
15. Your system is now unlocked, and you can view the adult channels.
16. When done viewing, re-lock your system following the instructions above.

19. Highlight the LOCKS option, press SELECT
20. Highlight the RATINGS LOCKS option, press SELECT
21. Highlight the NR/AO option, press SELECT a checkmark should now be in this box.
22. Highlight the SAVE option and press SELECT.
23. Highlight the LOCK SYSTEM option, and press SELECT
24. Enter a 4 digit password, highlight OK, and press SELECT
25. Re-enter the password for confirmation, highlight OK and press SELECT
26. Your system is now locked, the PPV channels and any show that has a NR/AO (Not Rated/Adult Only) rating will require that you enter the password in order to view
